Driver versions

Introduction

NVIDIA offers two distinct driver branches tailored for different user needs: Studio Drivers and Game Ready Drivers (GRD). While both are built on the same foundation, they are optimized for different workflows and performance characteristics.

NVIDIA Studio Drivers are specifically designed for creators who work with demanding applications like:

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects)
  • Autodesk Maya and 3ds Max
  • Blender
  • DaVinci Resolve
  • SolidWorks
  • ComfyUI

Game Ready Drivers are optimized for gamers who want:

  • Best possible performance in new game releases
  • Support for the latest gaming technologies (DLSS, Ray Tracing)
  • Optimized settings for competitive gaming
  • Regular updates with game-specific optimizations

Default driver vs No Frankenstein inscription

The Default driver version installs the standard NVIDIA Game Ready Driver with one notable modification - it adds the Frankenstein identifier to your GPU name in Device Manager.

Example:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Frankenstein

The No Frankenstein inscription version installs the exact same GRD driver, but with a different identifier - it adds a lowercase m instead of Frankenstein in Device Manager.

Example:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070m

Which One Should You Choose?

The choice between these options is largely cosmetic:

  • Default (Frankenstein): Makes it immediately clear you're using a modified configuration
  • No Frankenstein (m suffix): Provides a cleaner look while still indicating a non-standard configuration

Neither option affects driver functionality, stability, or performance. Select based on your personal preference for how the GPU should be identified in your system.

Important Note:
Both driver versions are functionally identical in terms of performance and features. The only difference is the GPU name displayed in Device Manager. It is up to you to decide which driver version is best for you.
